In 1977, the Republic Bank of Shelby County was established, and by 1982 Republic Bank and Trust Company was founded and headquartered in Louisville. In 1988, Republic Bancorp emerged as a financial holding company for the Republic Bank and Trust Company. From then on, Republic Bancorp was able to establish various other branch locations throughout Kentucky and then into Indiana, Florida and Ohio. Much of their success can be attributed to their dedication to serving clients in a very personal and individual way. They now manage over $3.3 billion in assets and operate 45 banking centers.
